We live in a very very high severity zone and fires have become a way of life for us over the last 20 years. Where we need to evacuate every couple of years now as opposed to zero before 2008. This last fire in the Palisades was a major wake up call, we had to evacuate for 8 days. I am the President of the Master Home Owners Association for our 300 homes and I am in charge of security and safety of all of our residents.
One of the things we were looking at is how to best protect out homes from fires which are inevitable here.
I was reading about some of the Palisades homes that had protected themselves and survived. And then there is the other issue which is the insurance problem. California Fair Plan which insures all of our homes because we are not eligible for normal insurance being in the zip code and area that we are. Many of our homes including mine are severely underinsured. So if there is a complete wipe out, I would be a couple of million dollars under water.
And so for me, being able to protect the value of my home, not only from a safety security perspective but also from a financial perspective. And finally at my age, I don’t want to be having to start over again and build a new home. I met with some competitors, I reached out to all of them including Wetline, had several companies come over and take a look, and I was just very impressed with Wetline’s attentiveness, how fast they were and their prices were much much less than for example Frontline. “We live in the San Bernardino mountains, and our main concern was structure protection due to the high wildfire risk.
